Well personally I do not like the mac interface and I would rather buy a Wacom Cintiq.

It is a tablet that has it's own screen, so yeah. and it's wacom so you know the tablet is of the best quality.

The difference between the Wacom tablets and this one is mostly the way it should be used. Wacom tablets are generally very accurate and used with pens to do stuff like drawing, but Apple's touchscreen interfaces are more meant to be used with fingers, as a control interface for everything you do. I don't know about the precision this Macbook Touch will have and if it would be useful as a pen tablet replacement, but it will have multi touch which will make the interface quite revolutionary. And Nintendo showed us what happens with revolutionary interfaces (they sell like MAD).

If you look at the source, there's some more info to be found on the touchscreen. First of all, it mentions the multitouch which would be more fully featured than the iPhone's version, and it also mentions a 'gesture library' which makes it clear that the touch interface is to be used to control the computer more than actually make accurate drawings, but doesn't mean you can't. Also, the source says "This is why they bought P.A. Semi. Possibly with Immersion's haptic tech." Ive googled both, and though P. A. Semi doesn't seem very touch-related, Immersion's Haptic technology provides tactile feedback to touch screens.

As you can see from the clues Apple is targeting the touchscreen to be used as a control interface rather than a drawing pen tablet. This probably means it won't be able to compete with the accuracy and feel of pen tablets, but it might still be quite usable for stuff like drawing. Only time will tell.

New news: Apple might go below the $1000 level with it's Macbook, and release new iPods possibly also with touch functionality. So, it seems a lot is going to happen this year.
