Senseito Sakura Wrote:There doesn't seem to be any real pattern as to which systems are affected. 60GB, 40GB, 20GB, and 80GB systems alike have all been afflicted with the issue. Wee've contacted Sony for word on the issue, but in the meantime several of the more tech savvy forum posters have determined how to fix the issue, if you're willing to yank out your console's hard disk drive.
Users found that removing and reformatting their PS3 hard drive and then reinserting it into the console would get the system to boot completely, after which it asks to reformat the disk again and everything runs normally. Of course they lose all of their saved games and have to redo all of their downloads, but I suppose that is better than sending in the system for a $150.00 repair.
Keep in mind that this voids any warranty you might have, so if you are still within the warranty period you should avoid this process and contact Sony support.

you update, you brick and then you have to pay $150!?

Sony pulls 2.40 Firmware
BREAKING NEWS VIA KOTAKU:
The release of PlayStation 3 firmware 2.40 seems to have caused a wide number of issues for those who updated to the new release, as reported earlier. It now appears that Sony has since pulled the new update, reverting back to firmware 2.36 as the most recent updated. This may be a temporary move to prevent further reliability issues. Wee are awaiting confirmation on the move from Sony and will update when wee hear back.

RE: 2.40 PS3 Update is BRICKING!!
I updated & every thing is fine, after reading there posts I have found
They did not wait for the update to finish, this prob was caused buy interrupting the update
Maybe there update just stooped, or maybe they just mest up the update there self's
