RE: PSP (PlayStation Portable) v4.00 Update
z7shaft Wrote:WORTH READING.
What wee really need aren't "new" things, but improvements of the old.

Like the MUSIC Player...
One defect it has is that it doesn't supports folders within folders, so You can only have the Artist folder and then the songs inside it, you can't have sub-folders like albums, so it is horrible to put in the same folder all the songs from an artist without being able to distribute them in Albums...

Also, they could make a "Shuffle" option like the iPod's, because PSP shuffle option only allows you to shuffle songs which are in the same folder, so it isn't a real Shuffle experience if you are only listening to the same artist's music, and if you want a real shuffle then you would have to put all the MP3 files in the MUSIC folder without any folder... so there should be an option that you click "Shuffle" then ALL the songs in the MUSIC folder, its folders, and the subfolders I propose are chosen at random, that would be a real shuffle

Increase the cache used in the web browser, to use space from the memory stick... 2048 KB isn't enough cache...

You can get a lot of good apps running from the Memory Stick, you've seen how useful GoMessenger is, and the fact that it is an add-on to the psp, not having come inside the firmware...

I can't stand how the $elfi$h $ony Developer$ use the excuse of "increasing PlayStation compatibility" to make updates, when the POPS only gets worse, and without noticeable PS1 releases...

Other thing I hate is how they do things seeking only to harm the "not official" development in psp, like changing NIDS, changing modules and code, making somethings worse (like fatmsmod and POPS) if they want to progress, they should be "sort of passive" with the "not official" stuff, because wee have seen that many of the improvements present in psp aren't
new from Sony, since much of them had been available to users in the form of Homebrew (there was first RSS in homebrew, the same for RADIO, even WEB BROWSING...)

With homebrew wee were even able to listen to music while wee watched pictures, thing added later by Sony
Wee can even listen to music and surf the web without lags in CFW, but there is no such thing in OFW...
Wee can even play games and listen to our own music in CFW, and there is no such thing in OFW...

A sort of "in game XMB" is possible, not as the Whole XMB being called in the middle of the game, but c'mon with IRShell its possible to stop in any moment the game, call the menu which is simple and perfect, listen to some music, watch some pictures, then keep playing the game! (with music playing in the background...)

Why are they so worried about people "hacking" their platform? I think that the psp has been hacked enough for them keeping worrying about it... they should support user content, Apple has made good choices releasing and selling SDK for developers to make things for the iPhone, even Microsoft had soften a bit when they thought about XNA... so why Sony hates the un-official development, when the "official stuff" offers much less than the Custom Firmwares?

Wee had restrictions even in the size that wee could watch videos... Sony told us that it was not possible to read high quality videos from the memory stick, so wee were only able to do it with UMD VIDEO discs... then Dark_AleX proofed it to be fake,
making Custom Firmwares able to playback full quality video from the memory stick a lot of firmwares ago. As of today's date,
there is still a size restriction in the high quality videos you can watch from the memory stick in the OFW PSP...

Wee can also watch YouTube videos, even save them to the PSP...
The cfw psp CAN run AVI files (PSPlayerMT, PSPTube) thing the OFW can't.

I love the FLV format! its not heavy in size, and with "acceptable" quality, and its a shame that the official PSP doesn't supports
it, while the CFW psp with PSPTube can playback it.

AVI is heavier than MP4. MP4 is heavier than FLV.

There are even regular players that can playback divx and flv and wmv videos... and ogg, flac, wma, mp3 audio format...
And they are simple players! imagine what the psp could do with its memory and its capabilities, which are superior and higher compared to any "simple" pocket player...

Sony should let users manage the psp however they want, what if I want a game to run at full speed in spite of lower battery life??? It should be included in the Settings menu, in the power save option, as a new option called Performance Management, having 3 choices for GAME like:
-Lower performance, Longer battery life (the equivalent to 222 MHz)
-Moderate performance and battery life  (the equivalent to 266 MHz)
-High performance, shorter battery life (the equivalent to 333 MHz)

and other option for music inside Performance Management, called Save Battery While Listening To Music (or anything shorter)
which is an option that can be On or Off, in the case it is off the psp will perform like the usual while listening to music, but if its on, the psp will "underclock" to expand battery life while listening to music, so Visualizations may be disabled, but the psp at least at 166Mhz is enough to playback mp3, that, with Wlan turned off, and the screen at Bright 1 or off could make the psp battery potentially longer than usual...

People in CFW can already manipulate the speeds which the psp uses at XMB/GAME, so it would be another thing Sony "copies" from the CFW people... and its sad to Sony to stop people doing whatever they want with their PSPs, you can even manage performance in laptops, and other devices, why you can't officially do it on psp? what the heck if I want to see this game run at the best performance, screw that excuses saying that battery wouldn't last, the psp is CAPABLE of running 333 MHz, but Sony most of the times locks people at 222 MHz, just to make battery last longer, as if it were a competition against the DS battery life, at the cost of game's performance...

All this makes me thing that I haven't bought a PSP, it seems that I only "paid" Sony to lend me their device, like if I were paying just to use it but without belonging to me, and as if Sony were able to claim their psp back at any time...

I freaking bought my psp with my own money, Sony keeps "rolling out" stuff to attract users, but at the end of the road what they do is just optional for me, heck I can do anything I want with my psp... So, if my PSP really belongs to Sony, can they sue me from damaging their property if I smash it with a hammer?

I can buy a laptop, wipe out all the software coming with it, and install whatever OS I want (and even for the super intelligent people their own OSs) So why nobody shouldn't be able to code something entirely from scratch and install it to the psp?
THANK GOD UTOPIA PROJECT IS COMING... I CAN IMAGINE SONY'S DEVS FACES...

I can't simply understand how Sony devs, offers less interesting and innovating things than the Homebrew devs, when the Sony people HAVE more tools and secret knowledge about the psp than the homebrew developers, and even when Sony's devs are being paid, when most of homebrew developers are not even paid and they don't do it a a profession, using their own free time (well some great works have deserved donations of the fans)

Sony can't touch me or even put my name in front of the law if I change my psp faceplate, if I remove its NAND chip and replace it (don't you remember someone changing the Classic psp 32mb NAND for a 64mb one?) If I get another LCD screen for it...
neither can they if I develop things for the psp, I DON'T CARE IF ITS THEIR CODE, if they don't want people to mess with it then why did they release the psp? If they wanted the PSP to not being modified from what they made, they should have kept it for themselves, giving it to the public means that what you do is just a choice, because wee have a choice, to follow your content, or to make OUR OWN content.

A official psp can only:
-see some pictures (not even animated gifs! even cellphones can...)
-play like 3 or 4 music formats (not even have play lists, or subfolders...)
-play like 2 video formats (with the size restriction if its not an UMD VIDEO)
-play games from UMD, and things you have been FORCED to buy even if you already own them (Like PS1 games...)
-Surf the web, listen to some music in radio, and chat in skype.
-Only send Photos via wireless transfer
-Only stream games via composite cable (Slim)

A custom firmware psp can:
-Listen to almost any music format (even ogg and flac!)
-Listen music while browsing the internet, or playing games
-Manipulate the performance of your psp
-Play PS1 games you already own
-Use your classic psp as an Universal Remote Controller (not just for tvs, even for cameras, and any device using IR)
-See videos at full resolution without restrictions
-Use IR Keyboards with the classic psp
-Send all kind of files via wireless transfer
-Open text files, even edit them...
-Stream whatever you want on whatever cable you have (Slim)
-See youtube and many other video sites
-Use your psp as a calculator
-Customizing your psp style to whatever you want

If your psp gets bricked, you need to send it to Sony to get it repaired, most of the times they charge you money, with Pandora you can unbrick it for free, and even install CFW.
If you break your screen Sony will change your screen, and charge you a lot (and they don't return you your psp with the FW it had, but with the lastest) I AM FREAKING FREE of putting in my psp whatever firmware I want.
So why when I updated to 2.0 I wasn't able to return to my dear 1.5??? Sony only offers the "upgrade" as an improvement, but what if I didnt liked that improvement? They can't force me to stay at that version, I should be free to downgrade to a version where I felt more comfortable...

The PSP has very high specs, most of them with potential uses, but not exploited...
most people underestimate what the PSP can REALLY DO, and sticks to what Sony says that is possible...

I prefer to use ISOs instead of UMDs, ISO read speeds are incredibly faster than a regular UMD (my ISOS in classic psp performs faster than UMDs in a Slim psp while using UMD Cache) What if they say it is illegal to extract the image from the disk?
I can have a hundred ISOS, I can put whatever I want in my psp, if I have a 4gb memory stick or a 128mb or a 16gb they won't tell me what can I and what can't I put in my memory... They can't tell me what to do or not to do with my UMD disc, I can rip it and distribute it in the internet, or I can give it to my dog as a toy...

I can make a bricker and distribute it causing tons of people to brick their psp... but I won't, because I am honest
and this is an honest scene, with some dark spots causing havoc, but ultimately all these have an unavoidable ending
When wee try new stuff, wee carry the risk of screwing up our PSPs, then there is people who cares about
that and found ways to get it back to normal...

If a CFW psp is capable of all those such things, the OFW should be able too, the Sony devs has got the tools, the homebrew scene is a community that was born from scratch, learning from the "trial and error" method, in a complex and unknown platform such as the PSP, with the help of such big countless names...

Finally I conclude, Homebrew was born first from Sony's mistakes.
So far, Sony's attempts to stop us have been nearly useless.
Homebrew devs always figure out how to get out of Sony's control.
And Sony has never figured out how to control us. and never will.
Wee are more owners of the psp than they are.

With that speech you could put a world class debater to shame!

Why not send it into $ony?

RE: PSP (PlayStation Portable) v4.00 Update
Word up z7shaft!!

The only error is
Under official firmware
-Only stream games via composite cable (Slim)

Its a component cable..because the video signal is split between the red, green, and blue COMPONENTS that make up the picture ;)  The Composite cable is all the signals in one yellow video cable ;)

Yeah...sony are tarding it up big time with this firmware.
