Is anime for asians?
Well how must i start this off

first of all wee all know what anime is, japanese cartoons and media

well everyday at my school i see a select few people watching or talking about the subject, but the funny thing is that all these people are asain (not to be racist, just trying to refer to the koreans, chinese, japanese, taiwanese altogether). Surely i look around my school and i see no one else like me that even likes it, and actually its embarrassing for a person (that's a white Caucasian i think?) like me to even like it. lol, sure its easy to run around and talk on the internet about it because you don't see any racial and physical barriers but when it comes to real life its diffrent. Supposedly just because im white means that im supposed to hate anime, and people think i do. Like once i saw one guy reading a manga, and when i looked over his shoulder (he was asain) he quickly hid it, i laughed but i couldn't tell whether he was embarrassed of me seeing him reading something like it or that he just wanted to me to screw off and not see what he was doing; either of the two.

its not like i can run around school and say "i like to watch anime! w00t!". It would be just too weird coming from someone like me, but its not weird for anyone who is asain (eastern people?) to be reading and watching stuff like it

i don't know, im kinda confused with myself right now when i think about it

is it really embarrassing for someone like me to be watching things like this?

lol, this is kinda serious don't give joke posts; i need some thoughtful answers

adieu for now, i need to go drink some water :P

P.S. im like two separate people, if you saw me in real life you would think i would know nothing of photoshop and im not someone who would watch anime and you would never guess i was the person named tetris999 (lol i give off the wrong impression? i dunno..)

i understand what you mean. Your afraid to show your true self because you would be considered "different" among your stereotype. That's why i hate stereotyping people its very unfair and makes it difficult when people judge you before they even get to know you. That's why wee have EP.

RE: Is anime for asains?
Most people I know who likes anime are actually not asians. There's an anime club here that holds regualr screenings (I never actually attend any screenings, I sometimes go there to copy anime off them. Beats downloading with a 256kbit internet connection), and most (at least 3/4) of the people I see there aren't asian. If you look it percentage wise, probably a higher percentage of asians watch anime (But our uni has a pretty large percentage of asians).

It also depends on the level of interest in anime. From casual level watchers (like me, who watch for fun, don't go out of my way to watch anime = low priority) to hardcore anime otaku (like devote life to anime = very high priority). I find the distrubutions for whites and asians to be not the same.

Although it may be very different in different dermographical societies, like over at your place, maybe anime is infact highly linked to asians.

I don't really think there's anything wrong with it. At least here, it's not.

I personally think there's a number of reasons for this.

Firstly, being from an Asian source in itself, Asian people will probably be able to relate to it more than non-Asians (ie understand what's going on, in terms of culture, better).
Secondly, you tend to associate with stuff from your source???

Tetris999 Wrote:Surely i look around my school and i see no one else like me that even likes it, and actually its embarrassing for a person (that's a white Caucasian i think?) like me to even like it.
That's something different - I've never heard of it being embarrassing.  There may be an age issue - for example, will judge things less, based on common perceptions, as they get older.

Or maybe he was reading some ecchi manga =P

I really don't know the social culture at your school.  From what I can tell, it's a little more "racist" and people have more deeply rooted stereotypical ideologies than I've seen at the many schools I've been at. (or maybe, you're a little too sensitive to things)
You will really have to determine it yourself.  Of course, nothing's stopping you from hiding anything >_>  And besides, I'm sure close friends will understand.
