The project was announced to the public on May 9th 2008. Daveigh Chase will reprise her role from the original, now the titular character. Also joining the cast are Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl), Briana Evigan (Step Up) and Justin Chatwin (The Chumscrubber).
Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly is not involved with the film in any capacity. Fox has already bought the North American distribution rights.
Shooting begins May 18th.
