XBOX dead?
Friend of mine uses a XBOX and well up to last week he was happy as a clam.
Last Friday the box worked fine until it just shut off.
I thought it was overheating or something, but it wasn’t hot at all.
1 hour later it was up again but only for like 10 minutes. Now, it won’t even power up at all.
Anyone think of what this could be?
Many thanks in advance.

RE: XBOX dead?
Well, Microsoft has a 3 year warranty on all 360's, so just send it in to them and get a replacement.

Man, if I had 8 inches, I would find a better use for it :P

Actually, MS has a 1 year warranty on all 360s. It has a 3 year warranty for Red Ring of Death. Most people find that to be really stupid, since the 2nd most common problem is the "Please put this disc in an Xbox 360" message. That was what destroyed my 1st 360. Most 360 owners think it should be 3 years warranty for everything considering how faulty the 360's hardware is. If it is under a year old, get a replacement.

RE: XBOX dead?
I would go with azumi except for 3 and 4.
Beating the Hell out of it won't fix it and I've modded an xbox, there are no fuses.
I would open it up take some pictures and post it (So I can see what's going on).
Oh and before you ask you will need torx bit screwdriver.
You could also wait...I've had it happen where one day something seems broken and the next it appears to have fixed itself. Also if water was spilled on it, in some unkown way, it would give the water time to dry and it would work after that.

actually all electronics these days have either surface mounted fuses or integrated ones, however they are not usually repairable because of the size issues. in some rare cases you can bypass the fuses but this is very risky - fuses usually blow for a reason, its safer to have a fuse blow than a whole chip, circuit board, console, table, house. (you get the idea :P)
as for the water comment - that will only be true if the console was not used while wet, because if it was it probably won't be easily fixable by drying it out.
only way to be sure is do the obvious - if its a 360 check the psu light and the ring of light as well - they warn of failures. check plug fuses (power surges can and have blown fuses). check power cables. check all cables actually. check internal parts if applicable - loose cables inside can cause errors like this. etc. good luck.
Always remember - Google is your friend :)

RE: XBOX dead?
I've actually had a tv soaked in water...
I turned it on and it was blue (no picture just a dead blue like BSOD) , and me (being young and stupid left it on like that for about 2 hours)
eventually I shut it of wen't to bed and the next morning I turned it on and it worked.
