Well I know you could do Huge scans at Staples and other places that are similar. However if your wanting to try it on your machine you couls improve the scanning on oyur scanner by getting a plate of glass cut the same demention as what your scanner is. this will lift up the recess allowing the document not to get bent.
like this, Black is the existing scanner bed and the red is the glass. It will lift up the image. This should work.
