Gentoo 2008 Beta 1
Quote:When wee said 'soon,' even wee didn't realize how soon it would be. 2008.0_beta1 is here. Your support and enthusiasm are greatly appreciated - thank you. You can help make 2008.0 amazing! Test out this beta and report any functionality issues you encounter. Since this is the first beta, wee're looking only for bugs in functionality, not bugs in appearance such as desktop backgrounds or other artwork. Wee expect to release a second beta once your testing has helped us fix problems with this first beta. A migration to RPM was carefully considered again for this release, but in the end wee decided to wait for the few remaining RPM-using distributions to migrate to the superior packaging format of ebuilds

I'm installing this. The Gentoo team has never failed me. This will be the 1st time I'm installing a beta though.

RE: Gentoo 2008 Beta 1
Linux is something that needs time and a good understanding of computers. Gentoo source based, and not for people new to Linux. A stage 1 install can take a day or more to get everything one would need installed, and that's if you know what your doing.

I wasn't saying you lack the skills, it was intended as a general statement. If you are willing to spend the time I'm sure you can get it going, but you want games Windows is the best OS for that.

i guess that's true. and yes i know that windows performs better with games especially with the review i read which says that graphics card perform better with windows than linux. i wanted to try the ubuntu to see how it looks like and also no other windows cd would work on my laptop because of missing drivers. i tried intalling tinyxp, tinyxp platinum and another windows rip so that it would run faster but the windows wouldn't recoginise part of my hardwares so i gave up. the only one working was linux but it slowed down my computer and couldn't play games without addons so i went back to xp. linux is good for programmers my brother tells me. it is more secure and many people use it as server os.
That's why you should never use some crappy rip. Rip it yourself with nLite. Plus, you don't have to pirate anything either (which could also turn out to be malicious poo poo, whatever).
Drivers aside, Linux shouldn't be worse off in terms of utilizing your graphics card...
I haven't tried Gentoo yet, but I guess I'm not too willing to get used to Linux yet. >_>
