Life Expectancy
First off, let me just say that I love my PSP, and plan on playing it until there is a PSP 2.
The homebrew scene has gone through many ups & downs.
But lately, there is a weird feeling in me that the scene is past it's prime in some ways.
Many of the "big names" have now left us - never to return...
And there isn't really much being released like it used to.
And aside from DaRk_AleX recessitating the scene with a new cfw from time to time,
it's been pretty dead lately.
Please don't get me wrong
I'm not condemning or quitting the homebrew scene in any way.
It's just that you would have to be pretty blind to not see the slowdown...
And I wanted to have a legitimate discussion about it.
If I where to take a guess, I would say that it will probably go for another several years.
SONY, and DAX are both still supporting PSP.
PSP homebrew still has the biggest following out of any homebrew console.
And if you look at the Dreamcast - it is still getting occasional releases.
I liked Schmilks thought best:
"As long as there is a current cfw, than I will continue to Mod it"
What are your thoughts/expectations/comments ??

RE: Life Expectancy
Homebrew is definitely slowing down... but its not all dead! wee just get fewer application but those applications have a lot of worth.
DAX.... where would wee be without him!
As you said that a lot of coders and all have left. That's is somewhat true... the new recruitment that comes along doesn't want to think beyond ISOs and Themes.
Still sometime for this to end though! Not as long as communities like EP are there to give the falling scene a kick in the arse and make it get up again! lol

RE: Life Expectancy
a slowdown:-yes,
reason for slow down:-well the psp already has a lot of great apps and stuff almost all the retro console emulators possible except for the n64 emu but that is still in developement
sony is always doing its bit for eg the new internet radio facility and other stuff
And dax with his cfw's is the most important part
there is not much more the psp cannot do
with irshell ,pspfiler ,and even functions which are built into the firmware

RE: Life Expectancy
I certainly think the flood of 'noobs' is a large part of the slowdown.
Any other forum I go to besides this one.... I can only shake my head....
In the 'development/hack sections' wee have the entire first, second, and third pages flooded with "help me" threads.....
People in the know......, people who used to hang around with like minds are starting to say 'double you tee eff????' where did all the like minds go??? F' this I'm out.
Now, all wee are left with are people saying 'help me, help me' all the time instead of 'look what I made today'.

RE: Life Expectancy
I sort of understand how you feel. There aren't many people releasing anything new anymore.
but I imagine that all wee have to is let sony take care of it. Eventually they will come out with something new that will inspire more people to get back into psp. For now wee just play the waiting game.
or you could try to take their place and make something cool and inspiring.
Also with what Hurtween said its true. There are too many fudgeing idiots who just want to use for illegal purposes. All they want to do is get free iso's of games they would have to pay for and the hell with everything else. Its sad in a way.

RE: Life Expectancy
This situationg reminds me of the current world. Everyone's too obsessed with useless spoon to make anything new.
Where the hell are all the dreamers? Why is everyone so afraid to take a chance now a days? Nobody wants to take any risks they would rather work their entire lives just to survive then go out and try something new.

RE: Life Expectancy
You're mistaken.
The slowdown has occurred permanently over the last year or so.
What do I mean?
I created a similar thread on -Hacks when I was there a long while ago.
I can't say theres been much difference apart from the fact the Homebrew scenes activity is very volatile.
Simply, one minute its busy, the next it isn't.
So, theres nothing to worry about, just go about your days enjoying your console, keep an eye out for the latest releases and chill, I doubt the scene will die before PSP2.

RE: Life Expectancy
Don't forget there will be a whole new surge of homebrew, not for the PSP, but for the PS3 if when it gets cracked.
