yeah, 6hr way too long for a game. wee should play some starcraft, which pretty much does not exceed 1hr.

AoE2 has like the most retarded unit control ever. There's like goddamn attack location command. So you have 20 militia and want to kill 20 enemy militia... If you select all your militia and right click an enemy, ALL your units will try to hit that same enemy, and the ones that can't reach will just stand there. If you right click a piece of ground near the enemy, your units will just attempt to walk there, while being under fire...

I'm surprised you're still playing this.

An alternative is to use Stop when they just about reach the location.

is anyone still up for this at all out of curiosity.....

i have played an absolute fudgeton of this game over the past year in school and have become rather decent at it... wouldn't mind giving it a go over the internet sometime....

I don't mind playing when free (and AOE requires lots of free time for a single game), though I would probably suck compared to you.
