RE: PSP redesign confirmed
So you guys really think they'll use a new mobo to improve security? I mean, they have to realize by now that no matter what they do it'll eventually be cracked. Another thing someone mentioned was official Sony themes..

RE: PSP redesign confirmed
I don't see anything that would compel me to go out and buy a slim PSP.
TV Out definitely isn't why I bought the first one, in fact, I bought it to not need a TV.
19% lighter? and for the time being, most likely, 100% unhackable. The numbers don't even out ;P
All I can say is, maybe someday.

RE: PSP redesign confirmed (NEW INFO)
Gamespot just posted an article detailing their hands-on time: Hands-on Article
The big thing I noticed that they talked about was that Sony isn't necessarily increasing battery life, they're decreasing power usage. This means that using the standard battery that comes with it will give you the same playtime as PSP V1, while using a V1 battery in the V2 will almost double battery life. Of course, you'll have to buy a bigger battery cover but it's still kinda cool.
EDIT: Also, to those who were lamenting that they couldn't see the memory stick slot, they showed it and it's much improved. Now you open the little drawer, stick the memory stick in the slot on the PSP, and close the drawer on top of the stick.
Also, they doubled the RAM.

RE: PSP redesign confirmed
I'm guessing they put alot of effort into making this incapable of running any type of homebrew. They will obviously have their own type of motherboards which will be designed to make mod-chips more difficult to design and attach, as well as being able to block lower firmwares better than TA-082's and TA-086's. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the old PSP and this newer one have separate firmwares.
Obviously I don't mean they will stop releasing new firmwares for older PSP's, because that would be stupid if games are going to require higher versions. What I mean is if the structure of the firmwares or they way the firmwares are run for the new PSP are drastically different than the firmwares for older PSP's it could stop downgrading to 1.5 pretty effectively, and could require completely different methods of cracking and/or installing/running custom firmwares (if there are future ones). I'm not sure about that though so someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
Either way, without homebrew I would barely ever use my PSP, so I wouldn't even consider getting one of these unless they get cracked.
I'm not disappointed in you, I'm disappointed in myself, for believing in you.
Did you park in a handicap spot? - No, I parked in two, I don't want any cripples scratching my car!

RE: PSP redesign confirmed
Well, the only thing I really use my PSP for is PSX games and ISO's. If someone can patch the ISO loader in the firmware and somehow find a way to launch your own PSX games on official firmware, I'll probably get one.

Ya know, IMO, the new PSP looks a bit sturdier than the first one.
