I dunno about you, but I only use my thumb on the spacebar, so I could probably type fine with them taped together.

Depend on how I use it, how I press it, I usually use my index finger but I use my thumb when I set it as my fast foward button in emulators. Also what ASSinator said is true when your thumb are taped together.

From what I've read, the requirements are about the same, maybe a tad bit higher, as the first installment of the game.  Then again, it's not finished yet - only a leaked version is out.
I probably wouldn't really call it inefficient - the graphics and physics are pretty good, and it's somewhat playable on my 2005/6 machine (AthlonX2 4200+, 7800GT).
