The 2 days is just how long the service takes.  If you want to do it yourself, you can.  It may be faster, or slower, depending on your computer and luck.

another question . . I have a winxp usb live stick edition. can I use that do do the dumping?if so how exactly?

since I think it would be easier to boot from that then having to make a special floppy (i don't even have a floppy drive)

Easier?  No way...

Well if you can't make a bootable USB stick that goes into DOS...
There was a HP utility I think - should work.
