hmm..... that is a considerable difference... but considering they are the lot who are working on the game translation - and they will have translation discussion on that - makes me wonder who is right...

Yeah, some big differences there in translations. Some parts might just be more literal vs more liberal translation. But other parts... like salt vs pepper? Someone screwed up there.

But yes, Eclipse often does edit their TL away from the literal translation to make it flow better?

Like this: "But the sky's unexpectedly bought the chicken out of me..."

And about the encoding... did notice that Eclipse's encode had less noise, yet retained more details (which means that encode wins straight out)... Ah, it's XviD vs H264. And Eclipse has in house cappers feeding them transport streams. So no surprise really.

I think the person doing the VN translation might not be the person doing the anime translation. Might be a translator, but definitely not the main translator for the VN project.
