it would be good if they some-how made a new technology so that it would be like a usb flash drive where you can just drag-n-drop stuff instead of continually re-burning the disc :D

The sad thing about technology like this is that even if they manage to perfect it and make it a viable alternative to the current disc technology, it won't be available for a very long time.

The reason for this is that the MPAA and the RIAA have a stranglehold on media. They are the reason that double layer and dual layer DVD's are still so expensive. It's not because of manufacturing costs.

Just look at holographic discs. Where are they? I heard about them a long time ago and at least two companies promised products in 2006, yet mysteriously they are absent.

There really needs to be something to drive these kinds of stuff though.  Like Blu-ray is pushed by the PS3 and HD-DVD pushed by the Xbox360...  Dunno if either of these standards will replace DVDs though.
