They have been working on fixing the crashing problems with Firefox 2 since it came out, and I've noticed it happening a lot less in each new release.  I only had it crash once in 2.0.0.4, and even though I've only had 2.0.0.5 for a day it hasn't happened yet.  As for Outlook not recognizing it, I've never had that problem.  Both Outlook Express and Outlook have always worked fine alongside Firefox for me, so it may just be something wasn't setup right for you.

What actually happens when you try to close it?  Does an error or anything come up?

I'm not disappointed in you, I'm disappointed in myself, for believing in you.

Crashes? i never experienced random crashes before and I've been using firefox for like 3 years.

Weird that u can't kill it. u used "end process" from the second tab of task manager right? if u use the first tab, and use end program, then it would often not work.

meh, restart ur comp, if it's still screwed, then reinstall ur firefox. if it's still screwed after that, then either ur system is incompatible, or u have something else screwing it over, like a virus, or another program.

i havnt tried the new update for stability so maybe i will. i also updated someones computer with the new firefox and it immediatly started doing the dialog box thing. now i did a search and it came up as a known problem but the fix is less than helpful (microsoft basically says use internet explorer). it is an issue to do with url links which is what outlook uses in html messages.

the crashes were on random pages but the crashes could be repeated so they werent really random - possibly quicktime or flash is not working properly.
i havnt been able to find the cause of the crashes - only that it happens on specific items on certain pages.

in task manager right click the firefox and then click go to process. then right click the highlighted process and choose end process tree. :)

RE: Firefox won't load
Anger, it could be the Windows poo poo which associates itself with IE.  Go Start » Run » appwiz.cpl, then in the left pane, select Set Program Access and Defaults - try setting your default browser to Firefox.

Generally, since Firefox isn't tied down to the OS, a uninstall, followed by a reinstall should fix most issues.

For an interesting read about Myths of Firefox, see this: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/...Myths.html
(the article suggests that Opera would be the best browser, but having tried it, I must say, it's nowhere as near nice as Firefox).

Firefox's plugins ultimately are win :)

RE: Firefox won't load
yeah i agree.
that's a most interesting read and a lot of it i didnt know.
my firefox crashes have been resolved with this new update for some reason but it is a little early to be sure.
as for the url problem following your advice i disabled ie and set firefox as the default and so far so good. that was another intersting little trick i didnt know about, thanks for that.
