Also, since I'm making the partition for Vista, I'm guessing I should make it NTFS, right? Also, how much space should I allot for Vista?

Filesystem isn't that important, as you can always format later on.
Size wise, at least 10GB for Vista.  Less if you're using vLite.

Also, defragment the partition before you resize it down.
