Lol who are you talking to?

I think everyone who's interested in setting up Slackware probably already knows how to partition their HDD, one way or another.

If you don't, you probably shouldn't be using Slackware.

THIS

so very much this.

a lot of people who "hate" linux are people who were great at windows and were suggested slackware as a starting distro.

(this goes especially to dark_mirage)

don't suggest slackware as a starter distro. it is NOT intended to be a starter distro. it is much more for the individual who is familiar with linux and wants to take the next step in customizing his/her system. in fact, i would go as far as to say don't suggest any of the "big 3" (slackware, gentoo, and arch) distros as astarter systems. they are far too technical for an everyday user, at least until they get set up.

is david going to be comfortable with tracking his own dependencies, even if certain apps have 8 dependencies and those dependencies have several dependencies as well? is he going to enjoy using his terminal often? does he know how to build a custom kernel? does he know how to build apps from source? is he familiar enough with his hardware to properly pick and install the drivers for it?

if the answer to any of these questions (except maybe the kernel one) is no, then you should suggest something else, before you get a friend who hates linux because its "too confusing"

RE: how to install slackware
I'm gonna add to this.

For users that don't choose GRUB/BURG and go with LILO, follow this.

During installation, be sure that you install LILO to the root and not a floppy or the MBR. After installation is done, log in as root and run this.

Code:
liloconfig

Choose 'expert'. Run begin. With the first step, add kernel parameters. If you don't know if you need any, skipp this by hitting enter. For the video mode, choose a usable resolution with a refresh rate that your monitor supports. Install it to the root. Then add a Linux partition. The install lilo. Reboot and you should boot to the boot console just like you would with the installation media. If you want to go straight to your desktop after logging in, use this.

Code:
startx

If you have resolution issues, open a Terminal (or hit ALT+F2) and type this.

Code:
sudo DISPLAY=:0.0 xrandr --screen 0 -s widthxheight

Onto my current problem.

I have no idea what's going on. I normally have this issue with a fresh install of any Linux distro because the new Linux kernel dislikes my video card. Usually setting my resolution to 1024x768 fixes this until I get my GPU drivers installed but this isn't the case. Using Fluxbox now.
