RE: notification system?
theres already an option to auto subscribe to threads you post in. <.<

i didnt realize your email was already your msn, i was just saying if your email wasn't already to set to your msn, to do it and start using msn so you can get pop ups of stuff subscribed to...

im not trying to fight or anything, i just try to give you a solution that already availble rather than have someone code a system.
because i know i can't code for poo poo, if i could i would totally waste all my time coding for ep.

someone school me on coding so i can run amuck

You don't look up your email - that's what your mail client does for you.  Have you ever used Outlook or Thunderbird?  If so, the notification thingy which pops up when you get a new email is the key here.  If you haven't, you probably should give them a try - they're nice IMO, because you don't really have to check your email manually, as they automatically grab new messages for you and pop up with a notification of it.

RSS clients can do similar things - pop up with new updates every so often.

I understand your request, it just seems rather complicated to write up.  There's a whole lot of things which actually need to be considered, such as:
- display message on one page or every page?
- allow the user to disable the message temporarily?
- how to handle multiple threads?
- combination of the above two points (disabling message disregards updates for all threads?)
- is it based on the subscription system?
- implementing this without severely impacting on performance?

Something which may be more feasible would be auto subscription + display updated threads you've subscribed to (it will be similar to the "View New Posts" link at the top of each page).  This should pretty much achieve what you want, though it will need you to click an additional link (or you can bookmark the link instead).  All in all, you need to visit EP to see your proposed update anyway, so may as well click an extra link?

How about that?

RE: notification system?
Since there's no response, I decided to do it anyway.

Go to UserCP » Edit Options and change "Default Thread Subscription Mode" to "No email notification" (unless you want email notifications).  When you post in a thread, it will automatically subscribe you to it.

Then you can view new posts using the new "View New Subscribed Posts" link at the top.

Hope that helps.
