The thing is, if you find a decent store, it should be at least semi competitive with online prices, I mean not too much more expensive. $4 and $30 is a MASSIVE difference...
And that page for the store I go to is actually a physical store, not online. ofcourse.... but yes, it's not local 5-10 minute drive, if you're talking about that.
I buy pretty much everything except groceries off the internet. I can get an ipod charger for 1.94 with free shipping online, or I can spend my gas and time and go to Best Buy and buy one for about 20+. Similarly, with cables like HDMI, which until recently were outrageously priced at retail (I saw ones for around 90USD), you can find them online for less than 10USD online. Everything in my i7 computer build, including the desk it is sitting on and the monitor came from online stores.
If a local store isn't staying at least "semi competitive", it is going to lose a decent amount of sales. Though, enough people in today's world are ignorant enough not to even check online at all (not a personal attack, just what I've heard from my girlfriend who works at Best Buy). Really, you should do yourself the favor of checking online for anything you plan to purchase. If you can be patient (or even if you can't be, and oftentimes can get it shipped to you within 2 days or so) you'll get a great deal, and just as good a product, if not better in certain cases, e.g., most of the places I went to looking for an HDMI cable only had silver cables for crazy prices, such as one 6 foot silver cable for 70USD, whereas when I went on ebay, I found a 10 foot gold tipped HDMI cable for 10USD. Though it might not be significant, the gold tips are preferred over the silver tips because there will be less corrosion on the gold tipped cables, allowing better electrical conduction.
As for my 24" monitor, I was planning to get it from a local store for ~400USD, but found it online for 200USD. It came with a zero dead pixel plan, full year warranty, 100% functionality plan, and others, which all came to 260USD, after shipping and everything. It arrived in 3 days. My point: always check all your choices. You might be surprised.
Sort of left the subject of the thread, but felt like throwing in my 2 cents.
