piKey update
For people who have use for this, this may interest you:

Fanjita Wrote:For the initial version:

It works as an OE plugin in VSH mode (XMB) and Game3xx mode (for UMDs and 3xx homebrew).

It's designed for stuff that needs character-based (rather than key-based) input. It has a special driver for the built-in OSK, so it can convert your keyboard input into OSK input. Mostly, that affects the web browser text input (including URLs) and a few settings changes - including making WEP key entry a lot easier.

It does also have some simple key » button mapping, so for instance in the XMB, you can use the Targus' cursor button to move around, or press ENTER for X, etc. These mappings also work for UMDs and 3xx homebrew, but it's usually not good enough to play games with, because they're not designed for that kind of input (it doesn't understand the idea of a button being held down, for instance).

For the Targus, you shouldnt need to do any configuration - it's the keyboard I use for testing so it should work right out of the box. There's an installer EBOOT that will copy all the files to the right place and set up the seplugins configuration - you just need to enable it via the recovery menu.

For future releases (and the next one should be quite soon, now I nailed a highly irritating bug...), there are 3 main changes:

- Support for Danzeff-keyboard based homebrew. For homebrew that uses Danzeff as its normal text input method, there's now a piKey plugin that can convert your IR keyboard input into Danzeff input. So you can now use your keyboard in AFKIM, for instance.

- Support for game150 homebrew. Needs a small bit of flashing, but means that piKey can run for all homebrew now.

- Support for keypress-based input. Now you can play more game styles with it, because it supports several keys being held at once, and understands about keys being held and released.

Plus several bugfixes and so on. It still won't be perfect (there's a lot of customisation to be added, which is the main issue) but the next release will be a big step forward.

Hope that helps.

Fanj.

I am really excited as i just ordered a Targus Universal Wireless Keyboard myself. Who else has used piKey and how does it rate?
