You won't be able to get the liveCD version to work on that system, you need either the alternate install disk or unetbootin for an online install.
if you have a reliable net connection unetbootin is by far the best way to install ubuntu, you just download the windows installer then restart and select the ubuntu option from your boot menu, then follow the steps just like a normal cd install except it grabs the latest and greatest packages straight from the repository and lets you select what tasks you want the system to perform and what desktop to use.
EDIT: I've been thinking about this and you are going to run into problems running any standard distro on hardware that antiquated, you may be better off with a puppy linux version.
