Changing XMB, or changing firmware version?
Customizing the XMB shouldn't affect the plugin, but changing firmware version will.

Dunno much about waves.
Generally, for icons, extract from old RCOs and replace into new ones.  For PRXs, you'll have to translate the offsets over....
