RE: PETA Condemns Pokemon for Suggesting Animal Abuse
I'm all for treating animals ethically but I do draw the line at silly campaigns like these, I mean yes it would be effective if that's what the games were about. If they dug deeper, you would find that many of the "Teams, Groups and in some cases the rival" are the ones that use Pokemon as tools for nothing more but personal gain. Where you as the player spend most of the time trying to free them, if anything you are spending the time to ensure the Pokemon's freedom not enslaving them. As far as the Poke'ball argument is concerned, each Pokemon has the free option to pop out whenever they feel like it as it's been constantly shown in the Anime, Manga and even a few times in the games. The Poke'ball's description is noted as a tool for capturing Poke'mon and nowhere states that they are trapped forever with no way out.

As for the entertainment value and fighting, well the point is to work together with your Poke'mon, not just send them into battle for the sake of it. Perhaps it's the idea that if you win you get paid that might be making them mad as if it's like dog-fighting?
