5) use Local (Perceptual) and use a value like 90-120
6) Don't do that

Don't forget that the Alpha layer must be changed to rgb first then to indexed color. Use a value like 10-20 for the alpha layer.

Oh and LOL at the 256 color error. I had that too :)
