Society, in general, is suspicious of abnormal behaviour.  Hikikomoris are definitely considered abnormal in western countries, thus you'd be placed higher on a suspicion list because the majority simply can't understand you and the way you think.
It sucks, but the irony is that people want others to be like them (although there's often praise for those that go beyond).

They do somewhat have a point, but I don't know the statistics.  Facebook now has like 900,000 members?  So that means like 87.1% of the world does NOT use Facebook.  Of course, this figure includes those in 3rd world countries, those who are older etc, but I suspect the number of young people not on Facebook is still quite significant.  (I'd guess that the Chinese probably don't use Facebook; have no idea about the Indians)


This is totally absurd though:
