Mermaids do exist. They're actually dugongs. Way back when when it took months to sail from one country to another, sailors would build up a lot of sexual tension. Well, that's when they discovered the dugongs (and had sex with them). They called them mermaids because a dugong's vagina is the closest one to a human's.
