RE: I'm buying a new PC
ugghhhh.
quad core, 8800gtx, 4gb ram... That will cost u an absolute fortune. I say there isn't much point spending that much. If ur going to spend that much, u may as well get a console (the only reason I'm anti-console is cause they cost too much, and this will cost far more)
I reckon buying the top of the range stuff is pretty much a waste, because your buying at very expensive prices, and after 1 year, they won't be top any more, and have lost like 1/2 their price. Stuff like quad core and 8800gtx are for enthusiasts. Performance wise, it is far more efficient to just buy good, but not too heavily priced pieces, like the 8600 instead of the 8800. U get a lot cheaper for a smaller loss of power. U won't need 4gb ram, nothing uses even close to that. 2gb is enough.
So i say buy the mid-high end good price to performance parts, and make it yourself.
Vista is too slow at the moment to be worth it, in my opinion. Some people likes the looks, but really, would u sacrifice speed for looks? My mom's core2duo (good expensive cpu) laptop with vista runs only half as fast as my current 2800 sempron (cheapest cpu on the market) running XP, and also slower than my old 666mhz celeron (10years old) laptop with win98, and it's obvious which is the stronger computer.
