Maybe I was lucky, but I managed to beat Brock with just a level 11 Butterfree, without using any items.
Just used Harden 3-4 times when Geodude is out (he was using Defense Curl all the time, so didn't affect Butterfree anyway, though Butterfree could probably stand a few hits from Geodude, allowing you to heal if necessary), then just sPa/\/\ Confusion.  Onyx didn't do much damage from all the Hardens.
But on a run like this, you'd probably want to be a bit more certain though - I just couldn't be stuffed training.
Looking at your run though, Mankey probably works better.

Misty is a tricky one to beat though.  Water Pulse seems to do quite a bit of damage to a level 20 Pikachu.
