RE: Anonymous Hacking Group Declares War Against SONY!
to be honest this like i said, has made no difference whatsoever to sony or PSN.
their reasons are incredibly flawed and their attacks have done shit all.
you own a PS3 but you do not own the software it runs on, why do people not get this. You own a LICENSE to USE it, not the software itself. therefore, what geohot did is breach of EULA, and therefore against the law. there's no two ways about it. If you install modified software developed using reverse-engineered code (from the PS3 OS and other software in the PS3), you are also breaking EULA and can be punished. Seeing as you, the users, do not CREATE the means to allow piracy and many other things jailbreaking allows, they merely ban you from PSN or ban the console if it connected online to PSN. It's in the PSN EULA and is a contract you agreed to when you signed up to PSN, so there's nothing you can do to argue about it. Seeing as geohot and failoverfl0w were the ones who created the means for all this, they are more seriously breaking contract agreements for the use of the PS3 itself, and a fair few computer "fair use" laws too. Sony can and do have the right to sue geohot, as even he knows full well that even if it was not his 'intention' to enable the running of software that enables piracy, that what he did makes it VERY easy to do so. Causing a lot of damage to profits from games to development studios (Sony-owned or not) and Sony themselves. "but what about homebrew?". Well for the PS3 that's written using an SDK which contains Sony-copyrighted code, so that's just as illegal too.
People may say "Sony should care about their customers more" about jailbreaking. Why should they if all you want to do is 'borrow' software that people have put hundreds upon hundreds of hours creating, testing and releasing. "It's all about profit to them", of course it is you absolute moron. Sony is a BUSINESS, they're here to make MONEY, and lots of it. If you don't like that then never buy anything ever again. I'm sure that would show them for wanting to earn money from the things they develop and create.
Anon just makes me so angry, using chocolatety auto-generated speech and fake low-signal effects to make an intimidating looking film just to scare them into submission. It's not going to work and it never will.
Anonymous, give up. Noone cares and all you're doing is making yourselves look like arrogant twats.
Sincerely,
ProperBritish
