I don't really want to start a fight here, and since there's really no solid proof as of yet on the matter, just believe what suits you best.

Depends on the degree at which you're willing to view things from a different angle I guess.
By the way, popular belief here refers to the popular belief in the US - I'm sure the popular belief in other nations may be quite different.
