Ok. Fuck. You need to get your facts straight. And also, lrn2fullstop.
I've already admitted that my English writing sucks and I use a lot of "and"s with no full stops (though this also is because I'm too lazy)

[1]. 8.9 earthquake, not 9.8.
A 9.8 earthquake is like almost 10x stronger in terms of shaking and like 32x stronger in terms of energy released than a 8.9 earthquake. A 9.8 scale earthquake has never been recorded. Supposedly with a scale 10 earthquake, you would be able to see huge waves ripple across the ground, nothing will survive that.
[2]. The earthquake happened in the ocean, thus the tsunami. Also it was somewhat far away so the shaking on the land wasn't too bad. Almost all the damage came from the tsunami, not from shaking.
[3]. If the earthquake happened closer on the land instead, trust me the buildings will fall. So they are probably fortune that the earthquake happened far away in the ocean instead of on the land.
[1] that was a misspell I've already admited and changed it.
[2]that was what I said, in ways.
[3] japan has gone through earthquakes like this, maybe not as terrible as this one but still close and the devastation hasn't been so huge. I still think that an earthquake like this in the middle of the city would have caused less devastation.

Seriously, do you get this kind of shit from watching anime or something?
I didn't say all buildings in japan are 100 floors. I was just giving an example and I just meant to say that you can't always run out of the building
and what's the difference any way, could you jump down a 4 or 5 floor building

(14/03/2011 09:47 AM)Assassinator Wrote: Because an earthquake far-ish away from the city is obviously going to be just devastating as an earth quake right next to the city.
You also need to consider the distance to the epicenter, not just the scale.
I don't think that was the problem, look at this picture and compare the buildings with japan. I can't seem to find any better pictures but I'm sure it clearly shows the difference and how weak the buildings were.
