That is to get into restore mode not service mode. Service mode can only downgrade 3.50 to 3.41 and you can loose the ability to play blue ray movies, maybe not with this?

It can also downgrade from 3.55 and the blu ray playback lost is only on the models that have ps2 support.The slim and all other version of the ps3 that don't have ps2 support are safe.

It can put 3.55 into service mod, but downgrade it? Are you sure? That would be very nice since I'm 3.55 and would like to use the full Linux that was added to 3.41. I will have to look into this when I get back from Las Vegas
