You can always install the really big stuff to the storage drive instead, if it's the space you're worried about.

But if you want this for heavy gaming, then I personally won't downgrade the performance parts (CPU, GPU) to squeeze out money for an SSD.

There isn't any difference with CPUs.  Every program that works for Intel also works for AMD.

As for ATI instead of NVidia, you miss out on some of the NVidia exclusive stuff like CUDA and hardware PhysX.  But unless you have a specific need of them, it probably doesn't matter.
