Ugh, hate the IRS and banks
Long story:
My dad and I have same name, and IRS misplaced his 2005 tax submission, so put garnishment on his account, and on mine, since my account is associated with his and same name.
This poo poo happens mid-vacation for me, and mid-week for him. Complete and total screw over. Wee have had to go 2 weeks without any way to pay for anything, and since my account froze, my bills, including my credit card payments, all got declined (some twice), and incurred a bunch of late fees and return fees (all of ~$500). After about 5 hours of talking to different ppl, using every single automated system, I was able to get agreements with multiple bill collectors that I would pay all by last Saturday, if the IRS will take the garnishment off my account. In the meantime, that account accrues $175 in return fees BECAUSE the account is garnished... double you tee eff??
As a result of the fiasco, I decide to open a 2nd checking account at a different bank, and list all my information as differently from my dad as possible, including full middle name, and prefix.
After a few bumps in the road, right on Friday afternoon, my dad and my account get released, but the bank refuses to refund anything more than $35 in the return fees (which are not rightfully mine, and were incurred BECAUSE of the status of the bank account). I try talking to the manager, and get bullchocolate. He says his computers will not let him give any more than that, despite the fact that he refunded more than that to my dad.
I have barely enough in the account after that loss of $140 to make my last two payments, but when I go online on Saturday, the payment was more than double what wee'd agreed on. In short, they said their terms were that I make this month and next month's payments NOW. I finally agreed, and gave them the routing number of my newer account, which is to be active starting today. I used my other account to pay one of the bills, and the new account to pay the other. My old account now holds $2 in it, and that is going to be the last money it will ever see from me. I'll be closing it as soon as this current account is confirmed as active.
I fudgeing hate the IRS, and I hate bureaucracies, and I hate hate hate automated systems ><
Such unfair bullchocolate. I am considering going to see a professional tax analyst about it, but don't know if it is worth it anymore. Am just ready for it all to be over. I'm just glad to finally have some source of funds again...
