Not really. The logical choice is a price/features/quality or value tradeoff. If you're all about mitigating risk, you buy insurance. Too expensive? Then that means you're willing to take on some degree of risk to save money (even insurance doesn't eliminate risk).
(okay, perhaps it might be difficult to find insurance for this case, but that's the idea anyway)
So I take it that you believe the premium paid in price and lack of features is worth the risk trade off for you?
Then you have your decision :)

You don't know, that's the thing. You're not using it now, so you ultimately won't know whether you'll love it or hate it - applies to many things really. Only buying it will solve the mystery - the most you can do is research to try to align your expectations with what you really get.
Unfortunately a risk you take. Personally I try to make the best of what I have as I am somewhat risk averse in this regard so I rarely buy new stuff.
