Vegetano1 Wrote:Vista 64bit lite with working video drivers for all codecs etc etc that smashing news..
XP x64 always supported video codecs.
Drivers and codecs are different things, By the way.
Tails Wrote:well, I tried it way ages ago... again..... do I need Vista if I just want the look which can be achieved in XP also?
XP can achieve somewhat similar look, but from what I've seen, not Vista.
If you ask me, I tend to use the classic theme anyways, so I really don't give a damn. I tend to change themes when I'm developing some app though - mainly to make the screenshots look better :P
Tails Wrote:O, by the way, just if u dunno yet.... there is a similar tool in XP by the same developer.... called nlite which does exactly the same things as vlite but for removing poo poo in XP, which make my XP even more faster.... lol... so... Vista has no match in terms of speed.
Yeah, I've known that for a while. I used XPlite though, never actually tried nLite, but always knew about it.
XP doesn't come with the over-load Vista does though, such as Windows Search, so removing components off XP doesn't make _that_ much of a difference.
In terms of speed, XP and Vista seem to be about the same. Vista just takes up more RAM. (I ran tests with clean installs of XP and Vista using x264)
Tails Wrote:well... the screenshot is now in JPG... :P
By the way, that
can't be XP...? How the hell do you get the search in the Start Menu?
Tails Wrote:nope it doesn't... see my reason above... lol.. very responsive... also...that Aero theme is achieve by using WindowBlind.... lol.. so.. as u know WindowBlind is using Classic look to theme rather than XP visual style to theme.. :P
*yuck* I always hated WindowsBlinds.
...and it does slow your system down...
uxtheme.dll patch For the win!

If you don't have a printscreen button (you should) there's "print screen" apps available. Camstudio should do it.
Anyways, Vista isn't great IMO. If XP is running fine, just keep it. Vista does have a few nice features, such as when you rename in explorer, it doesn't select the extension. Yeah, it's small things only, so IMO, not really worth the upgrade. But I do really need to reinstall Windows these days, which is why I'm looking into whether to go Vista or not.
Now I just need to find a copy of Vista x64... probably will be difficult for me to get, considering it's size :(
