Sure, wee've seen USB drives that claim to be tougher, stronger, and more resilient than the average USB drives. But have you actually seen one that can withstand nine Gs? For those not too familiar with the term, nine Gs is the equivalent of nine times our own gravity. That kind of force would outright destroy any USB drive in the market today.

The people at R&D Electronics Inc. created The Iron Drive. It has reportedly been tested to withstand high temperature, shock, vibration, caustic agents, submersion, EMI (electromagnetic interference), and nuclear stresses. While this may seem excessive, certain industrial fields and military applications would warrant such precautions.

The Iron Drive is surprisingly small at four inches and about 5.8 ounces. It comes in different sizes from 32 MB to 4 GB and supports multiple encryption formats like DES/3DES, SHA-1, RSA, and even AES. It functions under different operating systems such as Win XP Embedded, Win POS, Win CE, Win XP Pro, Linux, VxWorks. Wee here at QJ have yet to find data that wee would like to protect that badly (like our huge collections of, um, pictures and movies), but if wee do find some, wee'll get one of these babies just to be sure.
