vinnydisilvio Wrote:k, so i used the instructions here to play the peace walker demo (full instructions are found by clicking "more info" in the description). sure, you have to jump through a few hoops but it's an interesting method of playing a game that normally requires a higher firmware than the GEN team has released. i then tried to play another recently released game in ISO format but it's a no go. i think it probably requires 6.00.

if yoshiro is able to complete his game decrypter, hopefully that will be the last piece of the puzzle to play very recent game backups on a CFW.

You are not understanding.  The newest UMD games that require 5.55 will not work until the eboot decrypter is released, or a 5.55 or 6.00 cfw is released.  All previous methods of editing the ripped iso have been blocked by sorny.

Game Demos are not the same, they are simply an all in one eboot.  You can run most of them by putting a 5.55 version.txt in flash0 because they are not encrypted nor do they truely REQUIRE the new decryption keys that the UMD require.

The only reason Soul Caliibur works is because if you look in umdgen it says it needs 5.00, but the umd in psp says it needs 5.55.  Looking again you can see that boot.bin is a decrypted version of eboot.bin, not a dummy file like all of the new 5.55 games (dirt2, motorstorm etc).  So you can fake it out by having firmware run boot.bin instead of eboot.bin, or by ripping to iso, and changing the names of those 2 files and rebuilding.

Make sense?

yeah, that makes sense. i actually understood most of that before you explained it just now, but i guess i wasn't making that clear. i just hoped that an ISO that required something higher than 5.50 would work after editing the version.txt, so i had to try it.

I'm pretty excited about the eboot decrypter though, and the 6.00GEN that they're apparently working on. i also saw the videos for 6.00 MAC-B, but a lot of people are calling the MAC team out as fakers. i dunno, after watching 3 videos it looks real to me but they announced it way too soon. it sounds like if it does come out they have a long way to go before they can release even a Beta.
