the error doesn't seem to be with the distro, that's the thing. the error is with hal. which means its most likely a combination of my xorg.conf files, and the detection of hardware. So theoretically, the error COULD occur in Kubuntu, in which case, i wouldnt be able to use the keyboard or mouse, and would be stuck without a way out.

Don't really understand what you're talking about (only experience I have with Linux is using the EP server for basic file manipulation, and using stuff like 7z, rtorrent). But I'll believe you.
