RE: 10 Reasons Vista Haters will LOVE windows 7
A few criticisms somewhat left out:
- Lack of additions.  Vista adds eye candy, some GUI tweaks, but what else (major)?  Anything that you often use which is non superficial? (I can only really think of DirectX 10)  Win7 doesn't seem to really address this point unfortunately.
- Performance.  Perhaps you don't notice a difference, that's beside the point, but why would you knowingly make your computer slower if there's little to gain from it?  I've still yet to see a single benchmark showing Vista outperforms XP on a typical desktop - it's either equal, or in XP's favour.  Win7 does appear to be focusing on this point, which is in MS's favour.

Vista isn't exactly a horrible OS IMO, but it seems somewhat useless for an upgrade.

Dunno if SP1 is better.  I installed Vista Ultimate on parents' computer (original copy), but it BSoD'd every 30 minutes.  Tried to install SP1 - it failed, quoting some obscure error and MS telling me to download a patch beforehand (wonderful, another 70+MB download); oh and the failed upgrade also seems to have wiped out half the drivers on the system.  Got the patch, installed it, that went successful, but SP1 still failed to install.  Feeling generous, I gave it another shot by integrating SP1 into Vista, clearing everything and reinstalling.  That seems to have worked, and the BSoDs are gone, so it seems SP1 does help.
