Once a long while ago, when I was a young boy back in Tennessee, a strange thing happened one day when I was walking to the hardware store. A car ran right up beside me, slowly rolled down a tinted window, and let loose a plume of heavy smoke.

"Hey boy, I've a question for you," coughed a well dressed man through the rear window.
"Yeah, shoot."
"If I were to say you could climb in and sit next to me," his stained mustache twitched, "and the rest of your days could be spent in luxury, anything you wanted could be made yours, and the power and responsibility you could wield would let you have any woman you saw, what would you say?"

He paused for a moment and drew another breath of smoke before he spoke again. "The catch is you'd have to leave everything you knew, today. No more Ma, no more Pa. No more big brother Willy." Smoke poured from between his teeth, and his lips curled up in a smile.

"There are no extensions boy, you've heard what I have to say. Now what do you have to say?"

I hesitated before I spoke. "Mister, smoking isn't supposed to be healthy." Regret seeped in right as I finished saying it, and my face turned to a frown.

"Never mind that, boy." He turned to the driver. "Jay, get us moving," I heard him say as the car began to move away and the window rolled up.

I never knew who they were...
