converting the psp homebrew themes into .ptf format
Here is a guide to converting the nice, sexy psp homebrew themes into .ptf format, for use with OFW 3.70+.
Words you should know
OFW-offical firmware
Top menu.rco- the file that the homebrew theme icons are stored
Rco editor- the application wee use to get the icons from the top menu.rco
Thing you will need
These two programs(the sony theme maker and the rco editor)
A homebrew theme you want to use(these can be found Here and you will only need the topmenu.rco that comes with it)
A picture editor, like photoshop, corel, gimp and maybe even paint. You need this to resive the image and change the formaat(more info on that later)
Win-rar
Right so download the items from the link i put up before.
Now find the homebrew theme that you want to use on that forum or do a search on google.
Here is the theme i am using, requested by 'the assassin' on another forum. The theme from
here, also more themes on here aswell
1. ok once you have got a theme find the top menu.rco from the rar file, and then open it up in the RCO editor(by clicking on the open rco button). Now a load of stuff will show on the application, but just ingnore this, click on extract all, then chose a place to save them(make a new folder first other wise you will have loads of stuff on your desktop)
That's it with the rco editor.
2. Now open up your image editor, then open up the picture you want to use
i will be using the camera icon, for no reason
The image looks quite poo poo like this
resizing icon's
Main icon- 64x48
Sub icon- 48x48
main icons are settings, photo, game etc. And the sub icons are the UMD, memory stick etc.
Then you need to save it as a PNG/TGA/GIM file, those are the one's it will read. Remember to name them well, so you don't get confused.
once you have done that with the icons you want now you can open up the sony custom theme maker and start to make it.
1. open up the sony custom theme maker, then fill in the information, Title, product ID and version, i just put in random poo poo for that, well not the title, name it something good.
2. Goto the 'catergory icon' tab, now you will see the orinal sony icons, on it. Double click on the icon you want to replace, then browse and find the picture you created before. Then click 'ok', if the picture is wrong as in the size or the format of it, then stop, go back and change it.
3. now once you have done this with all of the icons. click on file and export, type in a name, save it.
Now it should be ready to be put on your psp, so connect your psp to PC using a USB cable/card reader and goto the folder called themes, and put it in there. now it should show up on the custom theme thing on your psp.
Hopefully this guide will work and be able to create icons from homebrew themes.
if you have any trouble, just ask, also i hope this guide is right!
Rkelly.

RE: converting the psp homebrew themes into .ptf format
Hi, I've been lurking trash for a bit of time here......
I had a question, with the new Sony theme method is there any way to have the wave show? The ptf files do not allow for the wave....this makes me sad.
