Really?  It seemed to run fairly smoothly on my old PC...
I don't think the system requirements for it are particularly high.

The best I could get it to run was with a large resolution at 50hz and setting the process's affinity to only CPU 0 and still I find the game runs too fast at some points and then it decides to have a fart at another.

It runs too fast?  I haven't seen any game do that in a long time...
(old games used to do it because they were tied to the CPU speed, so as CPUs got faster, the games ran faster - it was probably the main reason for the Turbo button on old machines)
