Well it has a 3.5" floppy disk drive, so that is how stuff was installed on it.  I've had to install Windows 3.1 a few times on a really old laptop I have.  In fact I have a bunch of old OS' on on floppies around my house, Windows 98 is the "newest" one and I think the last one released by MS on floppies, since it takes up a whole crapload of disks.

regular ubuntu will probably run slow on that poc....try using http://www.xubuntu.org/ it should have just as simple of an install interface as ubuntu, but just be lighter. Heck, you may even be able to play some video on that machine with xubuntu...

but this os is MS ME so how could it be installed by floppy

If u really want Linux just to use wine, then i suggest just install something like win 98.

Use Linux for Linux. If u want to use Linux for Windows, just use Windows instead.

i don't know about ubuntu, i mean the machine is rather weak... but then again, i don't know much about linux

Win98 would probably run nicely though.
