Convert mkv video with subs to psp
I'm trying to covert a mkv video with subs in it (not in a separate file and not in the actual video) but the subs don't go along. On the pc I can see the subs, and I can de/activate them in various video playback programs but not in the psp of course, there is no such option. Is it only possible to get subs on the psp if the subs are on the actual frames?

RE: Convert mkv video with subs to psp
(I apologize if you're not using Windows, since this is how I wrote this 'guide')
Use mkvtoolnix to extract the sub files, then use a program like VirtualDub to 'burn' the subtitles onto the actual video file. From there, you can convert the file to the PSP's format.
mkvtoolnix
(Download the installer, because I believe a GUI version comes with it)
VirtualDubMod
(Download and extract to your desktop)
1. Run mkvmergeGUI from your start menu
2. Click on 'add' next to the 'Input Files' text box and choose your file
3. In the 'Tracks, chapters and tags' box uncheck everything except for the subtitle stream.
4. Click on 'Browse' next to the 'Output filename' box to select where to store your subtitle file
5. Click 'Start muxing' to save the subtitle
6. Follow this guide to 'burn' the subs.

RE: Convert mkv video with subs to psp
I've been looking for a good Video Conveter to convert MKV Animes that contain Subs to PSP Format. I've tried Any Video Coverter before, but it messes up the Subs on the Opening and Ending songs of an Anime by adding some Numbers its just horrible. I've also tried PSP Video Conveter (PSPVC) before, it does an awesome job when it converts Episodes with Subs, but sadly, its rare for it to manage to successfully convert, Most of the time it fails, like sometimes it just converts the Audio and Subs, but No Image, just a Grey or Black screen.
That is why im in the hunt of a perfect MKV converter. Any help will be apreciated.
I thought of posting it here since its kinda related to the Topic.

That leaves the subtitles in an ugly .MKS container. To properly demux the subtitles into it's native format (.srt, .a ss, .idx/sub, etc) you should use MKVExtract (a command line tool that comes with MKVToolNix) or through one of the GUIs available for it. Like MKVExtractGUI2

I don't know why anyone would want to encode into XviD these days. Especially for the PSP which doesn't even natively support AVIs. Ideally you want to encode into H.264 in MP4 for PSP (because that's what the PSP natively supports).
Unfortunately, I can't really tell you what GUIs are good for PSP encoding these days, since I don't use any GUIs. If this was 2 years ago I would be writing a massive wall of tl;dr here about how to encode videos "properly", but now I recognize that this is something not worth learning unless you want to be a release encoder for a scene or fansub group.

RE: Convert mkv video with subs to psp
Thanks for the replies, but it's probably easier just to see if I can find the same files but hardsubbed or just give up. Thanks xD

RE: Convert mkv video with subs to psp
Ah well. Does the PSP support soft subs? Or is that only for UMD movies? I remember adding soft subs to m4vs so I could play them on my ipod (man, that was a pain). Is it possible to do something similar for the PSP?

Aside from UMD movies, the PSP does support softsubs, but only in MP4's native timed text format (.ttxt), which like noone has heard of. If you want to convert .srt into .ttxt I think MP4Box can actually do that.
You should probably just hardsub it to be honest, much easier, and it's just watch and delete anyway (I hope noone actually archives any videos in PSP format lol).

Look at my Post. PSPVC fails most of the time when Converting MKVs. Unless there's a solution that i don't know of.
