problems with computer games
Hi,
I was trying install Warcraft 3 on my computer after wee had to get the hard drive formatted a little while ago.
So when I used my disc, it would get up a certain point, then just stop working. The same thing happened with AOE3 after installation.
So, only for Warcraft, I made an ISO out of the CD files, and put the ISO onto a blank CD. It then, using the blank CD, installed correctly.
But when I went to Battle net to play, I would join a game, it'd start and when it was fully loaded, I'd get an error along the lines of this:
"This application has encountered a critical error:

The file data is corrupt.

Program: c:\program files\warcraft iii\war3.exe
File: War3.mpq"

War3.mpq was also that file that wouldn't install completely when I used the regular disc. I have changed some things(settings) on the computer, should I try re-installing XP?
(Some Battle.net games would work, others wouldn't)

Age of Empires 3 wouldn't install either. I didn't burn it to a blank disk like I did with Warcraft 3. Various times during AOE's installation, I'd get a message with something like this:

"Wee couldn't access 'C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Age of Empires/thisfile.extenstion. Please verify that you can access it and press Ok."
I'd press Okay, and it'd go a bit farther, then bring up the same message. I did that for a while, until I decided it won't work.

I have ran "chkdisk" once, but it did not fix the problem with Warcraft or AOE.
So, should I try to re-install XP? (So that original settings are restored.)

sounds like your permissions are screwed up. make sure your user is a member of administrators...control panel»user accounts, under group, it should show administrators

my wife is having problems with permissions to, I'm not sure why though.

in chkdsk did you do a full surface scan and automatically fix errors?

RE: problems with computer games
This type of things happened to me when I first got my vista, it says saying that I didnt have permission to runs a files but I was logged on as administrator.  I had to take ownership of the file first before using it.

That fixed it

RE: problems with computer games
Every user on this computer is an administrator, so it shouldn't really matter.
Also, draggy, I'm pretty sure what's that what chkdisk did, the results showed up for barely a second.
