just some update and stuffs.
recently i got a job in an expensive restaurant in Ginza (place where japanese burn money)
and well, job is not that bad, it's just my japanese is not THAT good, so i can't do much for now. they accepted me solely because i got someone introduced me to it, the guy worked there for like 5 years already.
but yeah, japanese they really do know how to put you down and make you feel useless. so work right now is really stressful i suppose. i want to find another job already, but i can probably do nothing else but teach english (not even sure if i can or not) or more manual labor.
._. don't think i can find another job any time soon, so i gonna stick with this one until they fire me, which doesn't seem that faraway now (started last thursday).

sigh, if i stayed in NZ i'd have like all rainbow and ponies life. not that I'm regretting my choice. =/

money is the least of my problems now, i only took up the job to learn more japanese and get something to do. =/ so I'm kindda unmotivated.

I don't know heartless, maybe you should've done japanese prior to going to japan and stayed in new zealand for work?

But yeah, new things never come easy when you're trying them out for the first time; it's a normal thing that happens to EVERYONE. Don't let it get you down though! I know thousands of stories of people going to foreign lands knowing nothing and they come out with a great life in the end. Hell my first job as a secretory was LADEN with mistakes, but you get used to it and carry on, which is what I'm trying to stress here; if things get bad, just forget about it and move on with your life, it always gets better ;).

well he did do a course in japanese before going, but obviously learning and using japanese every day are two different things ^^
stick with it heartless ;) you'll be fine

everybody has got to start somewhere, and beginning life again in a new country is by no means easy

If you keep at it, it'll get better eventually.  I mean, it's not going to be happy happy dream days straight from day one.

When my parents first came here, they were sweating in a fucking restaurant for $4 an hour, while trying to studying at the same time.  And they came with no assets, very little cash, no connections (don't know a single person), pretty much nothing.

And life was pretty fucking bad at the start.  They have like almost non-existent language skills (much worse than your Japanese), so they can't even get bottom jobs that a 15yo schoolkid can get with ease.  They can only get these (technically illegal) jobs in shifty restaurants that take advantage of people like that and pay below the legal minimum wage.  Well, it's either that or starve.

Now wee earn like $160,000 a year or something and own an (almost) million dollar house.  So I often think my parents are WAY too stingy on money (remember me bitching about my fucking internet?), but it sort of carries over from back then during the dark times.  Old habits die hard I guess.

Japan's economy is poo poo, though its unemployment rate seems okay at just under 5%.
Try increasing your "network" of people. Get talking with everyone around you (and perhaps spend less time gaming etc) - not only will this improve your fluency in the language, it may open up new opportunities for you. This includes having friends potentially recommend you into jobs which utilise your talents/specialities.

I'm sure Heartless knows (and I've read), knowing Japanese people goes a looooooooong way in Japan.

I, for example, may struggle to even find a place to live when i move to Japan, without knowing a Japanese person well.

Try hang in there though, a jobs a job and it gets you money. Money being a good thing.

However if your unhappy doing the job that's not a good thing either, especially if its in an environment which causes stress.

@assassinator, i know how it felt to be poor =/ my family of 4 lived in a 16m2 house for years. (though i got to admit, it was a happier family back then)
