Someone just told me that Madoka Magica was written by Gen Urobuchi, the guy who wrote stuff like Phantom of the Inferno and Saya no Uta. So I originally though it would be happy happy and bright like how magical girls shows generally are, but I have doubts now....

So tell me, is this show screwed up like Saya and Kikokugai? EDIT: err, if you ever plan on playing stuff like Saya, I suggest you not spoil your own story by reading wiki or something.

(Note: I haven't watched any of it so far).

It has mind fudge animations and it is very dark, especially for a magical girl anime. Don't know what Saya and Kikokugai are, but it is a pretty screwed up anime.

I've not seen either of those either.... if I could refer you to the Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei Opening as to some of the styles that seem to get involved... and the fact it is a SHAFT production with Akiyuki Shinbo at hand...... it was bound to be a unique magical girl anime.. and from what wee've seen it most certainly is.

I was talking more about the story than the style, but either way, I'm interested enough to go and try it. I should have the first episode already downloaded.
