I'm pretty sure the record companies are doing this just to try and scare off people. I wouldn't be surprised if they were paying for most or all of it.

If I went to a record shop and 'borrowed' a few CD's I would be charged with shoplifting, but if I do it from my home using a computer I get a fine? Something is not right that. Or is it just me?

RE: How much do we fine for music piracy again?
As far as I see she downloaded copies that were of less quality then the originals.
They say she "'borrowed'" these songs.
I wasn't aware that those songs were forever gone for mankind because she now has them in her possession.
These inflated prices the record company/court set on an inferior product are absurd.
Who's next photographers who happens to catch some artwork in their family picture.
The artist says" Your family vacation picture posted on Facebook has MY artwork in it. You have copied and are distributing it without my permission, this has cost me $1,000,000 in lost sales. I'm suing you now"
Wee'll it could be a way for starving artists to try and get paid. lol

I think it's because she uploaded the songs, ie, typical P2P where you share the stuff back.
Maybe I'm wrong.
